Hello everyone,

During one’s big move abroad, shipping personal belongings to the host country can be stressful. Customs regulations differ from one country to another and you never quite know what to expect when trying to recover your belongings once you’re settled. How about helping expats considering moving to Bahrain by answering some questions about custom regulations?

What are the procedures to get your belongings cleared by customs once you have arrived in Bahrain? Who do you have to contact and how do you get in touch with them? How do you go about from there?

How long does this process usually take?

How do you then carry your belongings to your new home?

Are there any items that are restricted by customs in Bahrain?

How much does it cost to get your belongings cleared by customs in Bahrain? Does the cost change depending on the amount or on certain specific items?

Do you think it is better to seek the help of a contractor to get your belongings cleared in Bahrain?

Please share your experience,

Priscilla

Hello, I’m new to Bahrain as well and need answers to these questions myself. Probably you may reach out to others who have experience in shifting their goods into Bahrain.

In my experience, Bahraini customs are one of the most relaxed and lenient in the world and I have never faced any issues.

Be sure to clearly and accurately itemize each box. They typically do spot checks on randomly selected boxes, and may X-ray some or all. If the inventory list on the selected box matches the contents exactly, they will approve the entire shipment.

The usual prohibition applies: arms, pornography, drugs etc

Agents are usually good at clearing the items since they have personal contacts in the customs and worth the expense.
