Hi all,

Newbie on the Austria forum? Don't know how to start?

This thread is for you ;)

We invite you to introduce yourself on this topic, to share with us your expat story if you are already living in the country,
or to tell us more on your expat projects in Austria if you are planning to move there.

It will enable us to help you better but above all to wish you a warm welcome.

Welcome on board!

Hello fellow expats :)

I'm Jasenko and I'm from Bosnia&Herzegovina. My story goes like this:

I'm a contractor for the US company. Working for them almost 4 years. So basically I'm a freelancer and currently working as a contractor. I'm a graphic designer. I'm married and I plan to move to Wien.  I also have Croatian citizenship. Croatia is in EU but Austria has restrictions regarding work permits for Croatians.

I'm curious, do I need work permit to do freelance work in Austria? I can't find that information anywhere. I think I can't get the work permit because of the restriction for the Croatian citizens.

My logic is this: I come to Austria, I work for the US company, I don't take anyone's job spot in Austria and I pay taxes in Austria. So why would I need work permit?

Thank you!

I am in transition between Switzerland and Austria.
I made the experience, that Vienna invites me more often to a job interview than Zürich or Basel.
I guess it won't take long and I relocate.

am a graphic designer. from australia

hi there,

I was born in austria, lived there up to 2 years old, then family moved to malta.

I would like to go back to my roots someday. It is proving hard to find jobs in austria that do not require a very good command of german, I have basic german skills since I am too out of practice to have a better level. I have no problem learning german to fluency when im there, which will be easier cause whenever I visit my family in austria I start talking too rather quickly.

any advice? I have experience in teaching english, working with children, and administration. any job forums you know of? I've been going through a lot of different ones, but hey Austria isn't malta, so God only knows how many there are that I am missing, also, I am aiming for Vienna, since I suppose that's where the hub of opportunities is!

The rent in Vienna can be similar to Sliema.
