Scared here..

hello!!Godbless you all...wanted to know more about PNG..Ive been hearing a lot of negative comments..hope to hear from anyone..please let me know because im planning to work in PnG..female nurse here..

Things look dodgy for that place

It seems the advice given by most sites is roughly the same - Keep most of your cash hidden away - I usually suggest keeping a hidden wallet around your waist with just daily money in hand.

Don't go out at night, at least until you know where's safe

Avoid any sidestreets and anywhere else that looks quiet

Seems the big danger is from armed gangs

For females it is not a safe country to work in.  You have to be aware of where you are at all times.

Read the articles Fred has so kindly given above. Have worked there many times myself.

thanks for the info...

I have posted on this topic a few times before.  I used to travel to PNG for work years ago and things have only gotten worse since then.  The multinational company I used to work for had a policy for not sending ANY females to PNG due to the high risk of rape and assault.

Simply put, if you have ANY choice, turn down the offer and move on.   It is not worth it.  It could be safe if you completely restrict your movement as most expat nurses do by staying inside their accommodation or going on supervised trips for shopping etc.  But that is no way to live.

We have lived here in PNG for almost 18 months and we have never had any issues regarding safety. Yes, you have to be careful and take necessary precautions but my wife and 7 year old daughter love it. There are parts of Sydney, Australia (where we originate from) that I would not travel at night !!

thanks for the concern..I really appreciate your thoughts..God bless sir..

It seems it's a culture thing how women are treated by men.

Never been in PNG so my comment above comes from watching this:
