It is extremely sad and painful to say that Mr James is no more.
He fell victim and was murdered by bad guy.

I still can't believe this happened. James was such a great guy helping anyone and everyone with their questions here. Such a tragedy.

In Brazil, it's all too easy to end up in the wrong place, at the wrong time, with the wrong people. And the better a person thinks s/he knows Brazil, the easier it becomes to assume that all Brazilians mean as well and are as friendly as they seem, and the greater the temptation to let one's guard down too far. Foreigners are highly visible, and despite appearances, cannot go anywhere they want with impunity. If there's a lesson for the rest of us in James's death, perhaps it's this: love Brazil as much as it deserves, but respect its dangers and keep your street smarts powered up at all times.
