6 month accommodation in KL for my dog and I

Hi,

To meet New Zealand import requirements for my dog, Nathan, he needs to stay in KL for 6 months or so. I have only a small income from NZ superannuation. Can anyone advise on options for his stay, or  possibly for me to live with him cheaply there. I am happy to do volunteer work etc in return for board.

You may be able to find a room in a shared apartment that allows dogs. Check on www.ibilik.my or on www.mudah.my

You will need to get a pet import agent to obtain documents to bring your dog into Malaysia.

Thank you,

I'll check those web sites. I am communicating with Pet Air Malaysia who will handle the whole process from arrival in Kl until release from quarantine in Auckland NZ. I also have a very helpful export agent in Manila. It's a complex and expensive process. Bringing Nathan from NZ to the Philippines was simpler but still expensive.

I would suggest you look for accommodation in areas that are dog-friendly because as you are probably aware, Malaysia being an Islamic country has a lot of restrictions concerning dogs. You may find this helpful as it lists areas that have dog parks

Nathan's weight may be a deciding factor, as sometimes its easy if dogs are under around 7-9kg. Anything larger can prove to be a problem when looking for rentals and may make renting a house (i.e. landed property) the only solution.

Regarding volunteering, this website may be of interest: https://www.sols247.org/ It would be important to mention Nathan as some of the placements will be in majority Malay areas.

Hi Gravitas,

Sols247 were interested but I think my requirement to have Nathan with me proved to difficult for them.
Having a pet minder care for Nathan for 6 months would cost about MYR 6000 and I doubt that I could live in KL for less than that!

I haven't given up entirely but I can't think of any other options.

Any ideas you can think of would be appreciated.

Best Wishes,
Graeme.
