Hi Everyone  My name is Carol Van der Merwe.  I am looking to move to ireland with my husband, 1 year old little boy and our 2 German shorthaired pointer dogs.   I am a qualified game ranger, farm manager and equine trainer and instructor,  I love training horses, dogs, children I can just about train anything haha.

My husband is a wedding and events photographer he also does a lot of equine photography.   The reason for leaving is my life is on the farms here in SA and people are being murdered so close around us.  I do not want any harm to come to my family.    We would like a new start in a new country.  If anyone has any advise for us on making the move easier please feel free to share.

Hi Carol and welcome to the Forum.

As South African citizens you don't need a visa to enter Ireland; however, you do need to get what they describe as "immigration permission to work" in Ireland before you travel to Ireland.

You must have a job offer or employment contract to apply. Permission will only be granted for work that is highly skilled or where there is a skill shortage in Ireland.  They issue a list of these jobs on their website, this link will take you there.

You will not be allowed to work in Ireland if you do not get immigration permission.

Hope this helps.

Hi Carol,

From the south African side of things, make sure that you get unabridged marriage certificate, and unabridged birth certificates from home affairs, and get them apostilled.

for the marriage certificate, make sure you bring your marriage register with to H/A otherwise you'll wait a year like we did.
