Survival in Paraguay as an immigrant

What are the possibilities of survival for new immigrant  without knowing local language and friends ?

In Paraguay it would be best if you knew not only Spanish but also Guaraní.

How to survive without knowing the language, and without friends?  This works anywhere:  Spend plenty of money.  You'll find you have many new friends in no time at all.  But the money won't last and neither will the "friends".

The challenge you posit, just survival, is not impossible but would be difficult.  You'd be reduced to pointing at things you wanted or needed to buy and holding up fingers to know how much to pay, and entirely dependent on a stranger's honesty not to overcharge you, or worse.
