Is ILTES compulsary for Dependent Work Visa!

Hi Everybody,

I am planning to apply for a Dependent Work Visa as my wife would be applying for a Students visa.
Can someone tell me if it is mandatory to give IELTS before applying for the visa?

Nope, IELTS is not required at all for any "TEMPORARY" dependent visa. There is a "Soft" requirement of IELTS  5 band scores when you will apply for your residency as a DEPENDENT of the principle applicant, But can easily be proved otherwise from your previous study, work experience in NZ etc.

Situation will be totally different If in future your spouse wants to claim points on your study. But that's not your question right now :)

Thank you so much Gourav, that's really helpful.
Are you based in Auckland by any chance?

Most of the time New Zealand not in the top or top 3 is probably because of Auckland only. It's still a heaven if you compare Auckland with any Indian city, but once you have lived here for some years, have had a good understanding of the geography and cultural then you will compare Auckland with another cities of NZ only and will realize Auckland is not what NZ is seen from the outside :)

Cons:
1. Unbelievably high cost of Rent and home affordability. Almost double of what Auckland deserve as a city if being compared on an international level with other similar cities.
- Example: An old, damp and sort of ugly 2 bedroom tiny rental home will be at least "$450 per week" in Auckland. Mainly dependent on the location but it's on an average.
- Example: A 20-50 years old dilapidated house will cost you about 1-1.5 million nz dollar if its within 10-15 km radius of the Auckland CBD and same will cost you about NZD 600,000-700,000 if its in far suburbs. A couple with modest earnings will spent 30 year of their life working like a donkey to pay off the mortgage. (Mortgage here is for max 30 years)
2. Poor work and life balance as in Auckland you will spend on an average 1.5 to 3 hours in traffic commuting to and from work. (In Regions average commute time is 10-15 minutes)
3. Plenty of suburbs (specially in South Auckland and far West) are more or less like a slum, Full of crime, Gives you feel of being in a ghetto town. You can't even safely walk alone while its dark in some of the suburbs.
4. People are stressed out, tired and in a dilemma. You don't get a welcoming feel (well not everyone is same but this stress is on the rise). Work cultural is more micro managed (Not all are same but this is on the rise) - 4.1 One of the biggest reason for this stress is gigantic mortgage/Rents and almost 95 % of the families share their house with other couples or multiple people to be able to afford rents and mortgage and this is one of the biggest reason that leads to stress in life.

Pro:
1. A big yes if you want to be surrounded by your community in every nook and corner, in your office, every shop you visit, every bus or taxi you ride on.
2. Eating out is much cheaper and has plenty of options in Auckland as compared to other cities.
3. A lot of leisure activities within Auckland only.
