The nightlife scene in Malta

Hello,

Having access to a good nightlife scene can be a determining factor for many expats upon choosing their next destination. Tell us more about the nightlife in Malta.

In Malta, what is the nighlife culture like: is it common for people to go out at night? Is there a big difference between the nightlife during the weekdays and weekends?

What are the most popular evening or nighttime activities (e.g. bars, nightclubs, shows, cultural activities, etc.)?

Is it safe to venture out in the evening and at night in Malta?

Is there anything in particular that surprised you about the nightlife in Malta?

Are there any apps or websites (or any other resources) that would help in staying informed about evening and nighttime activities?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Priscilla

Night clubs are more or less centered around one area - Paceville - and even the mayor of the locally suggests to avoid it like the plague for safety concerns.  Few exceptions for big venues but mainly it's all in one place.

Culture, dinners, live music and other activities are well catered for outside of Paceville.

I can only comment about Gozo, for such a small island there is always something happening to cover all tastes of music from night clubs in
Xlendi to two opera houses in Victoria.  Many of the bars on the island have live music on a regular basis especially in Marsalforn.
The island has a lot of good restaurants with many being either next to the sea or having a good view.
From May to September there is a feast on somewhere on the island, information you can find on line, with the local marching bands and
fireworks.
There are also two places where you can see quite up to date films.
We are very lucky as a lot of the entertainment is free of charge.
With regards to safety at night time there is next to no crime here so
no problems.
