School advice - moving from South Africa to Scotland

Hi All

We are considering a move to Scotland in 2019. Looking any advice regarding schooling. Especially moving from a school year that starts in January to one that starts Aug/September?

Thanks

Lindsay

Hello

We are from South Africa. My husband and I are very keen to relocate to Scotland our children are 13 and 9. My hubby was born in Dundee so because of him my kids have British passports as well.  My biggest thing is trying to understand the schooling system.

Thanks

Lindsay

Welcome to the Forum :)

All the Schools in the UK start their school year in September. Not sure I really give advice for someone that has a school year that starts in January?

What age is the child or children?

As soon as I have a better idea of the age(s) I can give websites that might help with the understanding of the Curriculum.

Thank you they are 13 and 9.

Right sorry, for the lateness, Scotland is a bit different from the rest of the UK.

You can look at https://www.bbc.com/educationhttps://education.gov.scot/https://education.gov.scot/parentzone/l … ulum-areashttps://education.gov.scot/parentzone/l … ulum-areas

I come from a family of teachers and have asked for other sites, as soon as I get them I shall post when I get them

If you have more to ask, feel free to post more questions.

Hi there,

Cannot really tell you about the schooling system here in Scotland but sure it is great, wish I was able to assist you on this.

Hi there

What village do you live in? We are definitely wanting a more rural villlage setting and wanting to know what is recommended. We loved the villages around Perth and also Stirling and surrounds. Don't necessarily want to be as far west as Glasgow. How long have you been in Scotland?

Hi, The village we live in is called Rosehearty in Aberdeenshire and a lovely place it is. We have been here for four years now as we lived in England for 22 years prior to moving here, as my husband is Scottish and wanted to come home also I have health issues and moving here has helped me a lot, as the air is so much cleaner. Really depends on what you are looking for in a place, we are both retired so here is ideal for us.

Thank you for your feedback. It is very helpful, we are also in Joburg. I'll definitely get in touch with some schools. Kinross High does look very nice.

This is really great. Thank you so much

Hi Lindsay,
I wanted to know how was the transition for your son from South African education system to Scottish education system. Me and my 13 year old son also moving to Scotland next month and I am also a bit  worried and confused and not sure if there is a big difference in the school curriculum covered in SA grade 8 Vs the school curriculum in Scotland  year S3....so thought you might be able to share your experience and guide me with some valuable input...

Thanks in advance !
