We're planning to explore the north coast the first 2 weeks of August. Do folks have recommendations of how long to stay in certain places? We're in our mid-late 50's, considering DR to re-locate to after coming back & renting for awhile.

18 days! Good for you. Be aware it will be damn hot and humid
Suggested stops to check out going west to east :
Cofresi
Costambar
Puerto plata
Sosua area
Cabarete
Cabrera
If you are into boating go further west to luperon. Anything farther east is pretty far removed from many services unless you go all the way to Samana/ Las Terrenas

We're meeting you Tuesday at the Sheraton @ 5:00. We're in Punta Cana right now at a resort and are very comfortable with the tropical breezes. Is it hotter and less breezy on the north coast compared to PC?

Don't over look Rio San Juan. Great ecological tours, lagoons, Gardens galore. Watch out for the big dip in the main street, easy to bottom out.
