Life as a female expat in Portugal

in terms of social norms towards female in portugal r quite respectful and adorable ,however it 'll not be cruel to say life of portugal is not easy .Income is comparatively low to other European countries .
as you have emphasised towards female ,I would like to say portugal is peaceful country where women's are respected and are free to enjoy there life as there will.

m fine thx,I would suggest u to do legal entry and office is located in cnai.Another document which is essential in portugal is Finance document .however ,social security number will only b  issued once u 'll hv job contract or business through which ur tax will b paid consecutively.

Robin, I am American and recently retired to Portugal. You will need to obtain an extended Visa to start. The process is well documented but you need to follow the requirements very closely. One of the best things to do (besides) general Google research is to contact the Portugal consulate in your state. I believe there is one in San Francisco but probably more. You will need to ensure you have a long term rental or intent to purchase property. Background checks by FBI are required as well as proof of health care which can be travelers insurance (with repatriation coverage). This is temporary then you'll need private health Ins here after that.  But again I strongly urge you to make an appointment with the Portuguese consulate so you get all the details.

Thank you. I am well aware of the requirements, documentation, and already have an appointment with the consulate what I am asking if there is anyone who I can hire to help me muddle through it all.

If I choose to move to Ecuador there are several legitimate  people who have businesses that help people though the system. I just have not found such a person who can help me in the US to guide me though the process because timing issues and some other things  are confusing,

Hi Robin, I see.  I can tell you there are lawyers here in Portugal who specialise in immigration etc..but it will cost you several thousand euro.  I don't know of anyone outside of lawyers that provide the service.  People try to help on the blogs BUT, we found that the information varies by blog and by consulate. For example our consulate was in Boston but they told us that the one in San Francisco had slightly different requirements so probably your best is to follow their instructions and checklist.   They will tell you exactly what is required for their approval to send off to the SEF in Portugal.

We are retirees and have no jobs here in Portugal BUT that is OK as long as you show you have the means (retirement funds, etc) to support yourself.  It is not a tourist visa...it is an extended visa first under which you apply for a permanent residency.  The process is well documented.
