World Cup....

England 6 Panama 1* !!!

Maybe there's a chance for England.... England vs Belgium - Thursday, June 28, 2018, Kaliningrad Stadium, Kaliningrad, 20h CET.

Ok, this is not a Hungarian topic but it's football, transcends national boundaries...and in the words of legendary manager Bill Shankly...

"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."

* corrected from previous posting where I got the score wrong

I'm not a football fan but was sat in the garden this afternoon with it playing on my Ipad and couldn't help but wonder if we may, at last, see something approaching 1966.  Having watched that game from the sidelines with 2 coppers either side of me, I can only hope to see a repeat of that day.

I am not a football fan either but this is patriotism.

Fingers crossed for 1966 type revival of England's fortunes.  Panama was not a particularly great team so England had it easy but definitely some great goals.

Two coppers sounds like being "escorted" to the match.

I was just discussing with Mrs Fluffy who I would support on the next match, which for me is Japan vs Senegal.   I'm picking Senegal and at the time of writing Senegal is 1-0 up.

I lived in Wembley as a young lad and grew up playing in what was the British Empire Exhibition showground, of which the stadium was a part; this link will take you to a Google page of images of what the place used to be like.  Much of it was gone by the late 60's, but it was truly an awe-inspiring place; sadly now all gone.

Oh, yeah, we were "escorted" to the match, the police sergeant decided we'd be less trouble sat between him and his colleagues; if you watch the famous, "they think it's all over, it is now" video clip, you can see us oiks sat there.  We saw many of the games at Wembley in the 60's just by loitering outside and then getting "escorted" in by the nice policeman; we were their eyes and ears around the stadium complex.

Cool!  Pretty interesting anecdote.

Coppers were real coppers back then.

LOL - yes, they truly were.  I owe those guys a huge debt for what I became. :)

I'm sure the final score was 6 -1 ;)

Englands next game will be Belgium and that will not be as easy for them.

Yes, it was 6-1, I was typing I think before the game ended.

Belgium will be very tough indeed.

Both Teams are at equal par I believe, so they will need a win. I hope that the Panama win doesn't go to their heads and they let their guard down. As they seem to do quite a lot.

But was nice to see history being made. :D

Not a football fan or a fan of many tv sports.
I did see that Japan had scored against Senegal.
Was rooting for Japan but left the room and forgot all about the game.
Does any one who won that match?

Agreed.

Last time England was against Belgium was about 1990 with a 1-0 victory in extra time.

Me neither but this is too important.

If you give me an opening I'll take it as opportunity to rubbish the US pretender to the game called "football" and to rubbish World Series baseball.  World Series including whom?  ;)

I'm, not a football fan, but as its, the world cup and only happens every 4 years its worth watching. Now Rugby (Union)
now that's something else. The game that America copied the idea from to make American Football.

Mein Gott....

........holders Germany out 0-2 to South Korea!

and Sweden's win against Mexico 3-0....

Shockers!

England might have a chance after all :D

I know.  Quite a thing.

England vs Colombia, Tuesday 3rd 20h CET

Should be a good 'un.

Well, this world cup is turning into somewhat interesting...

Germany
Argentina
Portugal

All 3 BIG teams are out

So today we have:

Spain v Russia 16:00 CEST
Croatia v Denmark 20:00 CEST

If the last match I saw  with Denmark (vs France)  was anything to go by, it'll be utterly boring.

Spain vs Russia should be the interesting match.

Not that bothered with the Croatia game, but the Spain vs Russia will be fun. Imagine Russia winning that one?

Russia have been quite good in their group but I don't think they've a chance against Spain.

Who knows, there has been so many surprises so far, anything is possible :D

Wow Wow Wow, Spain is also out of the Cup. This is surely one of the most interesting World Cups I've ever seen.

Surprise but  controversy there over that potential penalty but seems like it was solved by the video referee.   The own goal was just bad luck.

Now for the boring game, but who knows lol

I've got the telly on now.

Question on my mind is who to support for this game?

I'm leaning away from the Vikings to the Croatians, them being closer to Hungary than the Danish.

what a penny in your left pocket and a penny in your right? Not surprised when you look at how much they charge for the tickets.

Interesting games today

I'm pretty sure Belgium will walk all over Japan.

Brazil vs Mexico I expect Brazil to win without too much trouble.

Denmark vs Croatia was entertaining at the beginning but my mind wandered off later on.

No surprises with Brazil winning, But Japan winning 2-0 this world cup is full of surprises :D

Amazing finish there with a fantastic goal by Belgium at the last second.

Belgium vs Brazil will be a stonker.   But the real issue is England vs Colombia tomorrow.

Yay!!!!!!

Bloody hell lol

Talk about tension.  We were all wound up like an elastic band. Incredible work by the England team and quite a good dose of luck. I saw more yellow than at a canary convention - kit and yellow cards from the ref.  Those Colombians were up to some dirty tricks.

I now have to decide if I put an England flag on my car.

Yay!!!! .....Again!!!!!

Sweden....we love them....very cute....

I'm not really a Football fan, more of a Rugby man. But this World Cup has proved to be quite interesting. Brazil out, I can see England may be in the finals?

All top stuff.

Croatia's win against Russia was quite convincing so they will be a challenge but I think England will win that one as they are slightly better.  I was surprised at Sweden - they were on the defensive a lot.

The real problem will be what happens with France and Belgium.  I'm expecting Belgium to win by a slim margin.

I'm thinking a Belgium vs England final on Sunday 15th.

Considering the poor performance of the UK in the past (since 1966), this has been an interesting match.

BTW, Rugby is a game for men with funny shaped balls.
