The Budget

Hi Folks,

We are living in Mauritius on a Temporary Residents Permit as a retired couple. Does anyone know if there is anything in the new budget that affects us please ?

Regards Steph. X+

Are you on a retirement permit by any chance?

If yes, then foreign retirees will be exempted from payment of customs duties on the import of personal effects up to a value of Rs 2 million.

Of course, this will have to be implemented first, as of now, nothing is certain.

In a bid to attract foreign retirees, a new package of fiscal and non-fiscal facilities will be offered. Besides the right to acquire an apartment, they will be exempted from payment of customs duties on the import of personal effects up to a value of Rs 2 million.

Plus the sale of citizenship ( that will be another topic  but JFYI)

yep some are   becoming hustlers as far as selling the island ! ( like Cyprus, Malta and some Caribbean countries) .
Wonder whether that  Swiss lawyer is involved  :/

Guess we will have to wait for those elections

Thanks very much folks. Yes we are on our second three year retirement permit and need to apply for our third one in September.    We don't tune in to local media so I just worry that something will change and we would n't hear about it. The expat blog is great for keeping us informed. Thanks again. X+
