Health insurance

As a resident of PR, are health insurance offerings the same as in the states? We currently use the exchange, which seems to change year to year. I know the whole system is ever-changing. Who knows what will be available next year?!

NO, insurance is similar but not the same. PR does noot have Obama care and most PR insurance only covers you in PR.
There are several insurance companies but the most populars with Expats are SSS (Triple S) and MCS, In that Order.

Health Care is around 40% cheaper than in the US. Some say 40-60.
Some people pay out of pocket instead of getting insurance because a lot of doctors visits are about the saame cost as you pay in co-pay with insurance. Now that is a risk because you could be in an accident or develop something major, so it is a risk.

If you make little money, you may qualify for "My Salud", it is a program similar to medicaid.

If you are over 65 you have Medicare and can get into a Medicare Advantage program for little or no money that covers more than standard medicare.

Great stuff, Rey. Thank you !

Some people get discount insurances through thier churches.
