Personal Income Tax For Expat working in vietnam

Good day..

I need advice..

My company terminated my contract (Nov 2018)  due to restructure. After a long conversation with them we end up by agreeing they will pay me my 2months salary (1540USD)

But to my surprise when they give me the computation they deducted(1,000 USD)  PERSONAL INCOME TAX and its much higher than my salary.

And the computation that they show me is they computed all the income i received from
January 2018-May 2018 including dec salary because they said i received it this january and the TET bonus 2017 because again i received it last feb).

january 2018 -may 2018 income less 20% this is how they compute the Personal income tax
iwant to know if this is correct.

Is anyone in here could help me about this matter.

Thanks,
KRis

Gonna give a small read... https://www.gbs.com.vn/index.php/en/faq … income-tax and https://home.kpmg.com/xx/en/home/insigh … e-tax.html

Another Tip: 5 minutes in Vietnam commonly means never, any further time mentioned, add it to the first 5 minutes.

Make sure, the tax printout is not a 'cleansed' paper copy, but in fact the original. You will only need it, in case in reality, when you want to leave the country with a monetary amount, you need to declare. Until now at least, as PIT is not yet with all companies and all employees. In fact, there seems to be a lot of errors and gaps and none-implementation to exist so far.
Also check your papers .. On a tourist visa, you ain't eligible to work legally and PIT is only due, if you work/reside legally more than 180 calendar days per year.
