Hello everyone,

Being a parent can be challenging, and even more so when moving abroad, but it can also be an enriching experience. Tell us more below about your role as a parent in Thailand.

How are you experiencing your parental role in your new home? Has your move abroad changed anything in your parental perspective or approach?

On a professional level, have you been able to balance your family life and career? How so? Tell us about the benefits that parents can enjoy in Thailand, such as maternity leave, etc.?

How do you deal with being a parent as an expat, without the support of your extended family in the country?

Do you have any advice on how to introduce the culture in your new country to your children, while maintaining the traditions and customs of your home country?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Where I live up north, the only expat families one sees are missionaries and they seem to be on the god plan where everything is taken care of for them.

This strikes me as another one of those cookie-cutter topics which has little relevance to the membership demographic of the Thailand Forum.

It's nice here - kids are safe, Thai people and kids are pretty friendly and not bullying. Our kids often played outside even at the age of 1-2 yo, my friend's daughter at the age of 3yo plays by herself with neighbor kids the whole day without looking after her at all.

Fresh fruits, cheap and good food, warm weather - it's nice for many people

I  have a family of four and none of them are biological. The ol' lady (of 15 years) runs them like a drill sergeant and that suits me fine. I am fluent Thai and can query their responses. I am convinced they all all like me and that is enough.
