English Language Budapest Beacon Ends Publication. RIP.

From https://budapestbeacon.com/the-budapest … interview/

"The severe erosion of media plurality in Hungary makes it nearly impossible for us to continue publishing a fact-based newspaper of record about Hungary."

Not very good.   There are so many incidents coming to light.

Mrs Fluffy shared this report today (in Hungarian).

One wonders when Radio Free Hungary/Poland etc is going to start up?!

Wait. It gets worse:

Not so much a problem for us expats, who speak foreign languages so have a broad spectrum of sources to consult, but there are a lot of locals who only get their (mis)information in Hungarian from local Hungarian language sources.... And we don't vote, and they do. :(

I'll check this out later. I just subbed to the Beacon on U tube.
Wonder now if that channel is off to?

Yes, for sure.

The folks in Fáj (the village in the news report link I posted) are  obviously fed a diet of rhetoric they have no choice but to consume. They have no capability for alternate streams.

This is why there's a difference between the protesting urbanites (non-OV) and the easily bought off countryside dwellers (OV).

.....and now HirTV has been bought up by 'friends of', so their programming is following the trend of the other stations, having sacked some of their best presenters with immediate effect.

Now there is a thought.  I wonder which country would allow it to broadcast from it's territory?

I'm still sure there's going to be a Radio or TV Free Hungary soon enough.   There's a bit too much of the "ill" in illiberal.   I can almost imagine a resistance of some kind appearing.

Apparently 444.hu is going to start a English weekly :

Could be worth a look.

Maybe Bezos should start news desks/publications in every nationalistic/right leaning country.
