Can someone give me a benchmark of travel time?

Tamarindo to Jaco?
Jaco to Quepos?
Jaco to San Jose?

I can get approx mileage, but there, that may mean nothing?
Can you get a bus from and to these locations?

if you are not pressed for time (visiting 3 places in 3 days), take the bus
- driving is a hassle and WILL kill your buzz

There are definitely buses from Jacó to San José, and Jacó to Quepos. Not sure about a direct from Tamarindo.

The bus takes 2 1/2 hrs Jacó to SJ; up to an hour less if the Caldera highway is open (has been lately).

Jacó to Quepos bus takes 1 1/2 hrs.
