I would recommend that you first look through the Forum section here.  You can get many ideas of what life's like here and whether or not it might be a fit for your lifestyle.   As mentioned above, you most definitely need to make a few visits down before making the big move.

If you are living in the city of NY, you will need to slow waaaay down to adjust to life in CR.      My few trips back to the States really made me see how much I have slowed down both physically and mentally  by living here.  It sounds nice but it is actually an adjustment.
