Double Taxation

Hi There,

I am a British citizen of Mauritian descent both parents and will apply for Mauritian passport.I am trying to find information on double taxation for both UK and British citizen but as far as I can see from previous agreement you are only taxes in the country where you earn that income. Is that correct

Thank you

HMRC provides several PDF documents to explain DTA (Double Taxation Agreement) and Tax liabilities if you are living outside the UK.

If you are making claims to HMRC using the DTA between Mauritius & UK, you need to refer to the agreement in order to find out what is taxable, in which jurisdiction and how to claim for it. Most of the time your assertion " you are only taxes in the country where you earn that income" will hold, but the definite answer lies in the DTA.

The doc "Digest_of_Double_Taxation_Treaties_Nov_2017.pdf" available from HMRC website will give you a summary of all the DDA with UK.

The doc "Mauritius-UK_DTA_as_amended_2003_2011-_-_in_force.pdf" is the agreement in place.

Thank you for your help it is much appreciated
