Msc in DATA SCIENCE &BUSINESS ANALYTICS

Hi guys,

I am planning for my masters in "DATA SCIENCE &BUSINESS ANALYTICS" from APU university in KL
will be starting my programme from this april, so just wanted to know about the career opportunity out there for this programme, will i be getting job easily or need to strive for the jobs out there.
Cause according to research of APU university these guys are claming that there are still in malaysia there are only 750 data scientist and by 2020  malaysia needs 20000 data scientist.
so guys please if any one can give me some brief idea about this. And what are the job opportunities out there.

thanks in advance. :)

Almost zero - they are training Malaysians and on-the-job job training for local graduates. (That is why so many ads say Freshers and Graduates welcome - but it means locals). This is often indicated as well as language requirements are Bahasa Malayu and Mandarin.

Malaysia is only really interested in specialist software engineers. This is because it is one of the key development areas for the nation as a whole.

Malaysia is not like the middle east - it has plenty of local talent, which is directed into the areas needed.

it  means you are telling they are just calling people with giving wrong hopes and just earning money thats it????

APU are not saying foreigners will be offered jobs. Locals study at APU - that is where they are angling their marketing.

Anyone can study cheaply in Malaysia but it does not lead to a job. There are 400,000 unemployed Malaysian graduates...... that is why immigration will not approve hiring of foreigners. They offer training and incentives so the local workforce is directed where it is needed.

So it means I have to complete the course and come back to india ?

Yes that should be your expectation. You wont have 2-3 yrs experience so wont get a visa in Singapore or Malaysia

Now I am tensed cause I have paid my fees and all and your review about this thing has made me even more scared was going with a positive hope but now little bit worried .
Anyways will be giving my best shot and will try to achieve job there itself .

Immigration always require 2-3 years of relevant experience to qualification so that is the issue to finding work.

That rule excludes just qualified people

They also need to show no Malaysian was available

So if I am selected in an organization so they can't recommend me ?

Exactly - immigration can decline any application that does not fit within the rules. Employers do not have any powers. Immigration do.

The rules are here - https://esd.imi.gov.my/portal/pdf/TC-ES … r-2017.pdf

It explains which type of company can hire foreigners and which approvals are required.

There is a new discussion today about getting employment as a data analyst which may interest you: https://www.expat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=747068

Hi guys,

I think I am in a similar position that this thread started with and hence this query.

I got an offer from an Sdn Bhd in KL last month. The company applied for my EP visa with the documentations. Esd came up with a concern as to why hire an outsider when similar profile would be available in Malaysia which is not the case as my employer said and they are not able to find a person with my skills there. They have submitted appeal docs yesterday. They have received a time line of around 45 days to get to a decision. I have the following questions:

1. Does this really take this long? I have already been planning for the relocation as my initial date of joining was 1 March
2. Is there also a chance of absolute denial?

A quick reply from you will be very much appreciated as I'm quite worried at the moment.

Thanks

Hi Gravitas,

The position which I am being hired for was previously filed by an expat and when she left, it is being offered to me. This is what is shown as the reason to hire an expat since there is a lack of local skilled person.

I am having 2.5 years of relevant work experience and the job is related to computational analysis.
