MM2H visa

Hi , how difficult is it to get the MM2H for Penang?

No difference getting the MM2H visa for anywhere in Malaysia. You just need to qualify.

Check out Alter Domus who advise people in Penang. It is not a State-based system*, for West Malaysia  everything is controlled and centralised in Putrajaya, at a specialised immigration centre.

*Sabah and Sarawak do have their own application system.

Thanks for your advice- it's appreciated. I still don't know how I'm going to do my wish to move to Malaysia- so I have lots of questions 😊

There is a specialised and pinned thread at the top of the list of topics under discussion - https://www.expat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=592230

Just have to show liquid assets and monthly income. The fixed deposit placement after approval is now mandatory (everyone has to set up a FD). http://mm2h.gov.my/index.php/en/home/pr … conditions

The monthly income for retirees does not necessarily have to come from a government scheme, as there are few that operate this way these days with privatisation of pension savings. That is why an agent such as Alter Domus can help. https://www.penangmyhome.com/

Penang runs on Facebook and this group may be helpful for your enquiries - https://www.facebook.com/groups/MM2HPenang/

There are two States in Malaysia where it's different...Sarawak and Sabah. Sabah still operates under the old rules, I've heard (somewhat lower Fixed Account and liquid assets and still an over 50 and under 50 distinction).

Sarawak is quite different. Only those over 50 can apply and you cannot work (with rare exceptions to both). They require no evidence of liquid assets and no proof of "Good Behavior" from police of prior residency . As long as you meet their retirement or Fixed Account minimums, and have a local sponsor, and have a clean health-check you are good to go. Takes about two months rather than the 6-12 months now experienced by MM2H applicants.

I should also point out that they only issue 5 Year renewable visas (not 10) though "renewal is really just a formality" provided you have met the terms of the acceptance letter.
