Interesting customs and traditions in Macedonia

One local custom I wasn't familiar with was the practice of local children to knock on doors on Christmas Eve collecting sweets & fruit. I misunderstood & thought they were collecting for poor people and the first two groups of children were puzzled to be given a tin of tuna & a jar of jam!!
