What are the dos and don'ts of finding a job in Oman?

Hello everyone,

Where is the best place to start when looking for a job in Oman? Is it better to job-hunt by directly contacting the company of your interest, or should job-seekers rely on a recruitment agency, for example?

Are there any unique aspects that job-seekers should consider when preparing their CV/résumé and cover letter? Should a photo be included?

Do you have any tips on interview conduct in Oman? Are there any particulars, such as greetings or behavioural customs?

In you opinion, is knowledge of the local language or a regional language necessary to successfully apply for a job? What level of the language should job-seekers have mastered?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Priscilla

First of all, expat ladies getting an employment visa is a challenge. Since, MOM will throw challenges in clearing it. Better visit the top 100 companies websites (Check Muscat Securities Market, Oman Chamber of Commerce - Members section, PEIE etc) and check careers section. It also depends on the education level, work experience in the selected domain, English fluency if you are an expat and pref GCC experience. technical skills especially computer literacy or any unique skill which will give you added advantage over other candidates. Hope this would suffice. All the best.

hello
i am searching teaching positions in Muscat, can you give any information about this?

Teaching? school or college?

Hello greetings for the day.

In my view best way to start is by directly contacting the company of your interest.

I didn't come across any good recruitment agency yet from past four years.

Tips on interview conduct in Oman

Normal like every places, dress modest/Professional.

Language
English Only.

Wishing you all the very best. soon you might find a good job. one advice after getting a job please try to get a GCC/Oman driving licences.

Good Luck

There are lots of jobs.  But today, unfortunately, all decision makers are blaming the market condition, telling everyone- market is bad.  We need to cut down over heads,  there is Omanisation problem.  So this way, they all have safe guarded their own jobs and bringing down negative impact in this market.  I don't think EXPAT.oman can do anything with this kind of sentiments flowing in this small market.

To take up an employment afresh in Oman, it is advisable to get help from somebody already working in Oman.
One should therefore be very clear what category of job can help him / her for career development rather than desperately accepting any job.
Responding to Situation vacant / situation wanted columns  is a way to analyze the potential in the present scenario.
Besides English, conversant in Arabic is definitely advantageous ; but not a very necessity.
CV should be a mirror reflecting the attitude as well as confidence that can impress the needy employer as it is complete with all information. Then the interview is just an auspicious occasion to mutually meet and greet for the association.
A trend based approach !
Best of luck ...

Any doctor can share their valuable input over this.

Hi everyone,

My name is kennedy mulitani  resident in Kenya. The articles posted here are very  insightful. Back here in Kenya most of these jobs are through local recruitment agencies and they charge an average fee of USD1,200. which is on a higher side for most Kenyans. Some are dubious. How do I get assistance to secure general workers jobs in Oman say like driving, hotel waiter, warehousing etc.?

there are so many problems.
as mentioned above

omanization policy

to get a job visa   and then to get a suitable job

then the proper employer

then the NOC problem

i see many being exploited becz of the above reasons. salaries not paid in time or not as per the agreement

overtime not paid or not compensated

due leave or off days are not given or compensated

career development is hindered in many ways

i have a seen employees with conflicts or arguments  on very small issues with employers or administrators (e.g asking leave for few days due to some emergencies etc ) have been sent off  with cancellation of job and visa at airport without informing the person . later when they return from home , at the airport they come to know that their visa has been cancelled and now they can not enter oman for two years , and thus sent back home again from the airport . you can imagine the agony.

so must have a thorough  knowledge about all the aspects before joining the offered job

be careful before accepting the job. some of the private hospitals are not having good reputation in terms  of paying salaries in time , abiding to work hours as per the Oman law, fulfilling the terms of a written as well verbal agreement.  your practice licence is specifically for the hospital/employer you are offered the job. almost not possible the job to another employer /hospital without NOC. If no NOC you have to stay away for two years  and if you want to come Oman you have to pass again the Licencing exam as it is expired in two years time.(Once issued  it is valid for two years only and if you are working inside oman it is renewed  without exam every two years but if leaves oman then it is expired /invalid after two years)

@ww1 reply
How do you select hospital?
Is Government hospital better than Private?
Can you enlist the hospitals which had bad reputation so that people are more cautious while applying for the job.
