Apt. Rental

Does anyone know the cost of a 1 bedroom apt in laurelis?

You will find apartment rental costs for every budget in Laureles.  Here are a selection:

Thanks for responding but WOW these are new york prices, that's what folks pay for 1 bedroom apts in brooklyn ny.

I would have thought a one bedroom in NY would be a lot more than $500-$750 a month.  Remember these prices are in pesos, not dollars.   I am paying similar price outside of Medellin and getting a entire 4 bedroom 5 bath house.   So location has a lot to do with it.    For what it is worth, you are not going to find the best prices online.

Laureles is not cheap.  It is much more expensive than many other neighborhoods, and Medellín itself is more expensive than many other places in Colombia.

You must have missed seeing the many apartments listed in the links I provided for under and around 1,000,000 COP which at today's exchange rate is about $330 USD.  I haven't been to Brooklyn in many years but I don't believe you'll find any 1 bedroom apts. for that price or less, not even close!

A simple search confirms my suspicions:

Many tiny apartments in Brooklyn are 10x as costly and even more.

twinwolf is right - you are more likely to find better prices by walking around, looking for signs in windows, and asking people as you are to find something good on-line.  And location makes all the difference, just as it does anywhere.  But the on-line listings give a pretty accurate representation of the range of what's available, and are a good starting point for anyone looking.

Find a building in a desirable and apparently safe neighborhood.

Visit the management office .. and introduce your needs to front-gate guards at different times of day/night.

Inquire about rentals by owner.

Consider offering a guard a fair propina if he gets back to you with information that leads to a rental.  Propina payable at the back end of the deal.

Rinse and repeat at other buildings.

Another advantage to visiting places at night:  you get a more complete concept of noise levels.
