Festivals in Indonesia

Hello everyone,

What are the main festivals in Indonesia? Are there art, food, music, film, or other festivals expats can attend and participate in?

When do the festivals take place? How long does each festival usually last?

What activities go on during the festival? Is it necessary to buy tickets?

Are there any other events that take place in Indonesia that shouldn't be missed?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Priscilla

Hello Priscilla,

Yes there are a huge amount of festivals that take place in Indonesia. One of the most famous is the Java Jazz Festival. Musicians such as Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour and Harvey Mason are three of my favorite musicians who attend. It takes place in Jakarta, so let me know if you manage to come over here and I will gladly accompany you to see it.

Hi Abdul,

On August 4,5,6 there was the Dieng Culture Festival (DCF) performance folk feast or the agenda of the biggest haircutting culture event in Wonosobo and Banjarnegara. This event is an effort to preserve the culture that exist in Dieng Plateau.

Camping ground three days with many events are dedicated to satisfy the visitors DCF, including in the evening presented Jazz Atas Awan music, for those of you who like the same Jazz Music on the mountain height of 2000 meters more with shrouded in high fog Dieng.

Hi Zanzio,

Many thanks for introducing the local jazz music from your area. Actually I like specific musicians and their music rather than jazz in general and I am very particular. The only Indonesian musician that I appreciate is one that I have seen three times performing and that is Dewa Budjana, as much for his composing as for his technical skills. I'm not really into second rate jazz musicians who can put out a sound.

So many festivals in Indonesia, big ones and small local ones. I encourage everyone to get out there and to celebrate. Surabaya has some brilliant festivals as does Malang.
