Its good to have friends.:)

Sure, not a problem.

Lee, not hard to find an IT job in Vietnam. All big companies have a very comprehensive IT dept and require the talents. If you wanna to settle down in HCMC, I will help you to look out for the posts.

Thanks for helping me to lookout for IT jobs. I do want to settle in HCMC. I may not have the required skills or knowledge for them to employ me, that's what Im afraid of. But I'm willing to learn & start from the bottom :)

I'm also afraid that the salary is not competitive enough.

One of my Vietnamese friends recommended me to teach English in Vietnam. I wouldn't say my English is fabulous or outstanding, but I don't have the qualities & certs to teach:/:/:rolleyes:

Hey lee.. look up tefl.com online courses to do this will help you in your search for English teaching job..I am from Ireland and looking for work also in Saigon... I am considering doing the tefl course online this will be a start to teaching english....

Best of luck with the search any problems give me a bell

Cheers Eoin

Hello, just curious, why do so many foreigners like to teach in Vietnam? Good prospects or what?  Kindly share. I am just curious.

If by chance, a person has interest to set up business school here (private, not very big), does it needs alot of approval (or red tapes)? One of the share owner (51%) must be a Vietnamese national?

@ Lee: I dont know how much experience you have, but if you are fresh then start with your background (I mean IT job) is advisable (unless you want to do other jobs you like). If you are experienced, you may mind the salary reduction (compared to your Singapore income). However, it is still okay for you to have a good life in Vietnam with such salary. Burden on traveling to overseas only. However, usually, expats with high experience/qualification get high pays in VN. So no worries. Starting at a English teacher is just a temporary solutions. Btw, pls dont think it in the wrong way, Singlish may not be acceptable in internaltional schools here.

@henrylamcs: where there is a demand, there should be a supply. VNese ppl keens on studying language so the market for English teacher is blooming currently.

Pertaining your query, setting up any biz in VN requires approval (I mean dozens of documents you need to prepare). Especially, where there is an involvement of foreign investment. The rule of 51% for local owner was already abolished. However, as education industry is an encouraged field, the application to get approval may cope with some administrative burden.

Hi Lua, you sound great, I like your style. Straight to the point.

I think besides language lesson, Vietnamese ppl also like international business exposure as well, e.g. International marketing, economic situation.

I think this the trend for emerging countries.

Thanks for the tips.

I've graduated in 2003 but I didn't work what I studied. Instead, I work as administration + other scopes for a Japanese MNC.

I do understand that.

Im afraid that my experience needs to be learned & earned if I work there. I don't mind being a part-time teacher there, but I have no cert. By the way, I will not be teaching & speaking Singlish in those schools. I will be ashamed......:lol:

@ henrylamcs: Yup, you are right. In an developing country, ppl love to learn the new things. That is not an exception for VNese. All the best to your VNese life :D

@ Lee: Japan stands in the 2nd position as to the investment in Vietnam, compared to Spore. Your chance is quite big here, either work for a JP cop or a Spore Co. Be serious and try hard to find our your opportunity.

Hi lua, you are sounding like an HR specialist. Are you one?

Im very serious & committed in relocating to HCMC....

I will do my best & search. Thanks.:)

@ henrylamcs: I am not a HR. I just shared what I observed :D

@ Lee: hope to see you around soon.

Yup, next month. No probs. We can catch up for some Vietnamese coffee & my favorite Vietnamese food, xoi man....:)

Have you tried other VNese foods? we have a thousand of good foods for you to enjoy

Basically, I dont like spring roll because its raw. No dog meat too. I like the pho, com tam. Im very fussy about food. I like to eat foods from the road stalls rather than restaurants.

Haha...so just some till now. I will take you to try some road stalls (my favourite too). You feel have more favourite one to name down...:D

I remember theres a roadside stall at Bui Vien or Pham Ngu Lao selling fried noodles with beef. Hell, Its really delicious...

Basically everytime I go there, I eat light. Just a bowl of beef pho is enough. Maybe a packet of xoi man & couple of beers for supper, thats it. I'll be busying touring around or with my friends & I dont have time to try foods. Main thing is to visit places of interests there..

Haha...that is "Mi xao bo". Many roadside foods you can enjoy. Let make it when you come here. So I think you also love budget travel :D

Maybe you are a good man, hehe. you can manage your budget well.
