Although we are trying to quit smoking my wife and I will be coming to the DR for a two month stay and I wondered if anyone knows what the import tax would be for bringing in more than 1 carton of cigarettes (limit shown on customs site)? Not sure of current prices of cigs in the DR and what brands you can buy there.

Just looking for information - so please no judgement - we know we need to quit. THANKS!!!

I happened to be an expert on this. Although I do not smoke, I just so happen to know they allow you up to 200 cigarettes each.
That being said, I quit smoking several years ago and have been using both chew and nicotine gum, both of which I have brought in mass quantities with not trouble at all.
I am unsure of all the brands they sell here but i have seen Marlboro and some off brands, mostly in half packs.
