VoIP ILLEGAL?

I was recently told that VoIP is illegal here, but having seen it everywhere and used it before, it makes me wonder if that's even true. Please advise.

Yes it is technically illegal, but many people make a living selling voip in Qatar. It is a stupid law enforced by the government to maintain their monopoly on the telecom industry in qatar...

download the program (nymgo or skype), pay the fees, make ur calls (if possible); so long as u are not doing it out in the open, no one wil bother u.

by out in the open i mean in a cafe of some sort, i had a friend here in kuwait get told off for chatting on skype with her father, i believe it was just a case of said person feeling like a bully, and her being a beautiful lady.

in summary: u will not get arrested for talking on VoIP @ home, so long as u are not making a business out of it.
