New in town please help!!

Dear Friends...
Maybe these questions are question mostly ask by newbie in Cambodia. I'm sorry for asking it again and again ... because I didn't find most of the answers.

In Juli or August 2011 I will come to live in Phnom Penh for about 3 years due to my job. I can ask friends in my company but I really would like to know from different point of view.

1. Where is the best place to live? I would prefer to live in an apartment in central district with facilities such as gym, pool, 24 h security and garage.

2. Will it be easy to find household items/electricity tools. such as sofas, TV, washing machine, dish washer, air conditioner ect.

3. I am Christian. Is there an English speaking church in PP.

4. Where can I learn Khmer language?

5. I would like to learn the laws in Cambodia. does anyone have the link? I would not like to do things that the people consider braking the law.

6. it if easy to find everyday needs such as clothing? will I will be able to find branded clothing in PP such as LV, Guess, ect.

Your information would be useful... Thanks.:)

Welcome on the forum dearLani ;)

I hope that other members will bring their input to your several queries soon.

Best of luck
Regards

1. Skyline apartment if budget allow...if not BKK1 would do....

2. Household electronic, try K4 or Sunsimexco and sofa, try one of the many shops on Monivong

3. Many churchs here...no worry

4. There are a few good school here or you can hire a one to one teacher.  Let me know if you need       contact...will have to call my friend to get contact details

5. What sort of law? Criminals law? Business law? I guess contact one of the two largest laws firm in Cambodia: DFDL Mekong or Sciaroni (sp?) and associates.

6. Best you will be able to find maybe: shops along Sihanouk blvd or boutique along street 240

Hope that helps.....

Hello Dearlani,

I have lived in Phnom Penh for nine months and would be happy to help. There's a Christian email list you can subscribe to which provides loads of information about places to live, items for sale, church information, etc. but I'm unable to place it right now.

If you email me at [email protected], I'll forward it to you as soon as I receive it.

Welcome to Phnom Penh. It's a wonderful city to live in.

Gabrielle

Thanks you all.. It helps a lot.. :) looks like I worry for nothing..

No need to worry - Phnom Penh is FANTASTIC!!

we have a very active Catholic Community here. Services Saturday and Sunday.

Great places to stay Skyline Apartment, Colonial Mansion, many others around BKK 1 and riverside.

You can buy most of the things around here, furniture can be tailor made without a problem. For better clothes and more choice we usually go to Singapore...

Only downturn that we have experienced so far: Access to Western Standard Health and Medical Facilities not given. ISOS Clinic offers VERY basic care, anything involving a specialist you will have to go to Bangkok or Singapore, so make sure that you have also the flights/medical evacuation covered by your health-insurance.

Overall great place - high quality of living. Let us know if you need any further help or information!

A & S

We are missionaries living in Cambodia. We just got here on July 3rd, so we don't have our own ministry started yet. However we work with our son who has been here for 10 years and has several province ministries. if you would let me know what your doctrinal choosing is, I could possibly link you up with other missionaries who has churches in Phnom Penh.

We purchased our furniture and appliances at: Sandalwood Furniture Center 378E, St 93 Monivong Blvd. and Sunsimex or something like that. I can't find my receipt to get exact name, but this is where we bought all of our appliances [small & large].  You need someone that can bargain for you, but Sunsimex has employes that speak very good English. Never pay the prices they originally give you.

Wish you well!

Gail Powers

where can I find this catholic community?

Hello eleanorred

As this is a very old thread - dated 2011! You might not get any response.

For your info, the initial post is dated 2011.

If you wish to teach Khmer, please drop an advert in the Phnom Penh classes classifieds

This will help
