Giving Birth in Chile; implications for the parents

Dear all,

We are an unmarried couple (30 and 33) from Europe and are here now on a 6 month temporary residency visa. Our baby is due 3 weeks before our temporary visa expires. We want to live in Chile permanently, but dont have a proper carreer or lots of money percee. We are not a big fan of marriage, but would obviously do it if it makes things easier.

We are wondering, if our child is born here, will it be easier for us to get permanent residency here?

We have asked this question to 2 different officials. Both said we can apply for a1 year extension based on being pregnant. After that 1 year temporary extension, we can apply for the permanent. However, the two ladies gave us different details about the application process for the permanent residency:

1) One said that if our child is born here, it will be really easy to get permanent residency (no need to proof income, money, job etc etc).
2) However, the other lady, said that we would still need to show proof of an income. And we would basically go through the same process as when our child would not be born here.

Does anyone have knowledge or experience with this situation?

Many thanks!
