You'll have a plethora of cheap accommodation options at Mariscal. Negotiate a good deal either a weekly or monthly rate, preferably a weekly rate at first, then if you're comfortable with the place negotiate a monthly rate.
Alternatively, there are residential rooms for rent in that area (and elsewhere), that you can rent on a monthly basis, however with this option, some request a month or two deposit.
Just walk around, you'll find something. At first why not book something online for a couple of days to give you time to search for the best possible deal.
