Query for working on a Dependent Visa

Hello All,

This is my first post in this forum .
I have a query since we are planning to move to belgium soon .

Details :
My wife 's indian company wants her to work in Brussels for 3-4 years atleast .
they are working to get her a work Visa and dependent Visa for me and 2.5 years old kid .
I am working in india at present in a US based organisation .

Query :
1. What are the timelines for us getting the visas provided we start on 25th May for submission .
2. Company wants her to be in Belgium on 10th July , will we get the dependent visa by then , is it possible?
3. I am planning to quit my current job in india and move there without a job (some where around august /sept ) and hunt once I am there- is it a good option or should i consider working in india and applying for jobs from india ?
4. Can I work as a dependent in Brussles?
5. if yes , Do companies give chance to dependants or normally they avoid due to the formalities which a dependant may require to work?
6. I am a IT infrastructure Project Manager with 10 years of experience and Project Managment certifications like PMP & PRINCE2 ,  Is this skill in demand over there or not- what are the chances ?
7. Prices per month for English speaking Daycare for a 2.5 year old kid?

Apologies if the queries are long ,as it is a big decision to leave job and move to a new country I am thinking a lot on it.

Dear Sahil5213,

Your questions are legitimate and normal. But these are questions that have already been asked dozens of times on this site.

Therefore, I would rather advise you first to read the various articles of this style found in the archives of the site. And then come back to us for more specific questions.

By cons, be careful not to do like many expats who do not want to learn the local language (s). And in this way create a ghetto. Since Belgium is a country with three national languages (English is NOT part of it), you will gain in integration quality and even more for your child who could open up to other universes / cultures ...

Indeed, all of these questions have already been answered in many threads in this forum.

After going through those, if you have more specific questions, feel free to post them.

Best of luck !

Hi Both,
Thanks for your reply... you were right i found many answers ...
Below are the queries which are still pending to be answered ... it will be great help if you can answer them :

3. I am planning to quit my current job in india and move there without a job (some where around august /sept ) and hunt once I am there- is it a good option or should i consider continue working in india and applying for jobs from india ?
No answer i can find

4. Can I work as a dependent in Brussles, ? -
I saw some answers that if organisation is fine you can  ... want to know will i be legally allowed to work on a dependent visa..??

I have a interview with consultant based  in belgium in few days - her first question will be do you have working rights in Belgium ? - So i am on a dependent visa should i say "yes to this or no"

Then i saw a link which you shared that we can apply for Free lancer card -> that means we can only work on a contract job not as an employee?

5. Do companies give chance to dependants or normally they avoid due to the formalities which a dependant may require to work?
No answer i can find

6. I am a IT infrastructure Project Manager with 10 years of experience and Project Managment certifications like PMP & PRINCE2 ,  Is this skill in demand over there or not- what are the chances ?

3. I am planning to quit my current job in india and move there without a job (some where around august /sept ) and hunt once I am there- is it a good option or should i consider continue working in india and applying for jobs from india ?
-> It is up to you. In practical experience, it is easier to attend interviews, etc if you are physically here.

4. Can I work as a dependent in Brussles ? -

-> You have two options:
1. You get an offer from a company and they sponsor a work-permit (type B) for you.
2. You register as a freelancer (professional card).

Various WP in Belgium (Only B type is applicable for you in current situation):

Professional Card:

5. Do companies give chance to dependants or normally they avoid due to the formalities which a dependant may require to work?
-> if they can find the same skill/competence in candidates that does not need a work permit (EU nationals, permanent residents, professional card holders), they will not take the hassle to apply for a work permit. Having this said, most of the MNCs need specific skills for which they are ready to go through the process and get a work permit. It all depends on how urgent they need the resource and availability of same skills in the market. If they really need you, the MNCs in Brussels who hire a lot of expats are very experienced in this process and they get the permit approved without much issues.

6. I am a IT infrastructure Project Manager with 10 years of experience and Project Managment certifications like PMP & PRINCE2 ,  Is this skill in demand over there or not- what are the chances ?
-> I dont have an answer, but some pointers.  Join Linkedin groups related to ICT and project management jobs in Belgium, see what kind of openings are posted there, enter discussion forums.... Register in EU job portals, start actively searching (and applying) - you will know how much in demand are the skills you have.

I have a interview with consultant based  in belgium in few days - her first question will be do you have working rights in Belgium ?
-> Most probably she meant "Does the employer need to sponsor a work permit for you" ? And in your case, the answer is yes.

Hi aneesh ,

Thanks a lot for the reply..
Few more queries....
If i am getting interviewed from india for a particular organisation in belgium, can i tell them that if they provide me a offer letter and a letter of invite i can arrange a work visa myself or it is a mandate that company has to sponsor it ?
Are there some consultants who can help in applying WP from india based on if my belgium company can only provide offer letter and invite letter and can not sponsor my work visA?

(Please update urgently i have a final round very near, and i dont know what to answer them regarding WP)

Also next month my wife s company will be applying for dependent visa for me, if i do not get a offer for amy reason  then i may need to apply for professional card later to apply jobs n belgium :
Can it be done before entering belgium ?
Are there some consultants who help in documentation or it is to be done on my own?

1. Can I arrange a work visa myself or it is a mandate that company has to sponsor it ?
-> There is nothing called a work visa in Belgium. A work permit type B must be sponsored by your employer.

Read more about work permits here:

2. I may need to apply for professional card later to apply jobs n Belgium. Can it be done before entering Belgium ? Are there some consultants who help in documentation or it is to be done on my own?

Read more about professional card here:

There may be consultants in India, but here, documentation is arranged by the person who applies.

Hi All

I am searching for an oracle developer job at Antwerp.
But i dont find direct jobs in websites like indeed and linked in
Could you please suggest me a good consultancy which can arrange for a job and interview on this track.

Thanks in Advance

Hi,

In my Residence Permit card, it says Arbeidsmarkt: Onbeperkt which means Labor market: unlimited. Does that mean I am legally allowed to work here? Btw I'm on a dependent Visa.
