The best services to use when moving to Honduras

Hello everyone,

What were the biggest hurdles you faced when moving to Honduras? Were there any services available that helped?

Which services helped you most upon your arrival in Honduras? Were there any that helped you adapt and integrate in your new home?

Are there any services that you wished were available when you moved to Honduras?

Did you find the price of the different services available reasonable? Were there any that were overpriced, to your mind?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Make sure that you know what part of the country you will be staying at as far as clothing is concerned. Some areas are tropical and some can be downright chilly. If you have special medication make sure that you stock up although Honduran pharmacies are excellent and many have qualified pharmacologists on staff.

Make sure that you drink clean water and wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly. You may want to take anti-amoebic and anti-parasitic medicine every six months. If you do not speak Spanish a portable translator may prove valuable. Good footwear is available, however Americans tend to be larger than most Hondurans, so bring extra jeans, shoes or other clothing, especially if you are a large person.  Music of course is basically merengue, salsa, and reggaeton, so bring your own music and if you are an avid reader, your favorite selections of books.

There are good medical services. Bus transportation and taxis are readily available. There are also luxury bus services. Airplane transportation within and outside of the country is available. Ambulance service, police and fire departments are usually good responders in case of an emergency. There are good schools, bilingual and monolingual, along with good universities. Electrical service is rather trying, especially in extremely hot weather, as there are frequent blackouts.
