Treating a corneal ulcer in Quito

Hi,
I'm new to your group and apologise for posting here if it's not appropriate; but I think I you may be my best bet for helpful advice...
My 24 yr old son (an engineer), has just flown into Quito on 06 April, and during his flight from LA, his eye rapidly became very inflamed and extremely sore. He was in so much pain that he couldn't sleep last night, and this morning it had deteriorated noticeably,  so he went straight to a hospital to see a doctor. (I'm not sure which) The first doctor he saw was unfamiliar with the condition, but arranged for him to see someone else for a second opinion. He was then diagnosed with a corneal ulcer and given antibiotic drops to apply every two hours.

Please can you offer advice on the best place to seek help for this condition in Quito? If this is not treated well, early, it can led to loss of sight. It seems to be getting worse now, so tomorrow morning he wants to see a specialist doctor. I am in London, so am trying to help out long distance.
Again I apologise if this is inappropriate use of this forum, but I'm pretty concerned! I was not planning to visit him for a few months, but am wondering if I should hasten my trip.
Thank you in advance for any advice you can give!

You have a legitimate question and hopefully someone knows a good doctor to recommend to you. Your son did the right thing by going to the hospital. Perhaps he should go to a medical facility that specializes in eye care.

Please, Can anyone offer any advice on an eye hospital ? My son's eye condition is worsening. The hospital he went to was Vosandes. Can anyone tell us if they are good or not? & prefrably recommend an alternative. He has insurance if that is significant.
Thank you.

Vozandes is state of the art and has an ophthalmology department so hopefully he'll be alright.

Thank you for that info. 😊That's  good to know.
