Just a quick tip, make sure you stay around the KL area to get a real feel of the western society cus frankly speaking, you wont find much western people else where unless you go visiting the touristic islands like Langkawi.

Another tip is, join as many Facebook expat groups as you can to get to know people here. Facebook is a real deal here in Malaysia. It will help you to get to know where the western societies hang out and chill. Just make sure you have the budget for those sort of things... although Malaysia is quite considerably affordable but KL tends to be pricey.

A lot of people share a lot of crappy info on this site. So be careful who you listen to. Malaysia is pretty chill and probably the thing you'll need to transition to the most is our temperature so your dressing style and type of clothes in general would probably change. The night life is in KL if that's your scene, but other than that KL ain't all that. And if meeting other expats is truly important, just walk into any Starbucks.
