Hei fellow expats,

Just a little bit of background about myself, I hold a SAK authorization as helsefagarbeider. I am applying for a student visa now and I would like to find out the possibilities of finding a part-time work in hospitals and nursing care homes as soon as I arrive in Norway. Can anyone share their experience regarding finding a part-time work as helsefagarbeider?

Many thanks!

For me I just walked in one of the homes at 9am  and handed my cv/resume. Got lucky that 12nn of the same day they called me to come back the next day. I thought it was an interview but it turns out it was contract signing already. It was my very first job application here in Norway so I guess I got lucky.

Usually you can tell employers that you are studying or planning to study therefor you can take 20-30 percent work. I think it will be very easy to get a job at the healthcare field as long as you speak the language :)

Wow! That was quick. May I know what year did you arrive in Norway and what type of visa did you have during that time stephy25? My plan is to study in the school for a few months (let's say 3-6 months) and hopefully from working part-time get an offer for a full-time job as helsefagarbeider. On the other hand, when you applied, did you pass the norskprove test already? And which kommune were you offered the job? Sorry for asking too many questions. :)

Cheers!

I arrived here 2014 on tourist visa then got family reunification on 2015 because I was allowed to stay here and wait for the result. I finished level 3 norsk from NTNU 2016 which is B2/C1the equivalent of bergenstest. I got here because of family reunification.

But during the time(june 2016) I applied for work I wasn't finished with my b1 (i was able to skip b2 because I got a place at NTNU Level 3) and my workplace never asked for any norsk certificate, I think they didn't ask because they know that I will definitely finish my norskkurs because they know that I will pursue my nursing authorization here.

I was hired under Trondheim kommune. I had many classmates at the university who got 80-100% job after a year or two while they were on student visa.

You said that your employer never asked for any certificate from you. I think that goes to show that you aced the job interview in norsk language right?😁 Congratulations! By the way, would they accept an applicant with A2 language certificate? Did you have any prior norsk language training here in the Philippines before going to Norway?

Surprisingly I never had an interview with them. The day they asked me to come back I was really nervous because I thought it was an interview and I was not confident with my norsk ,luckily it was already contract signing.

I think language requirements really depends on the employer. I never had any language training before coming here that is why it took me a year to learn and finish norsk.
