Gird up your loins. Apartment hunting this time of year can be expensive because of the snow birds. Go to a non tourist area. But you need boots on the ground because internet tranactions will not get you the best deals. Bob K and Planner are sages and will not steer you wrong. My glass is not full so i can recieve, but if your glass is full...may the force be with you.

Hello.

To note that some off topics posts have been moved.
Can you please come back to the initial topic?

Thank you,

Sometimes it is just fun to let some innocent topics run thier course.  Never knew we were so rigid here.

Love this post Jax!

LOOKING FOR 2-3 BDR.  2 BATH APARTMENT IN UPSCALE BUILDING NEAR THE OCEAN WORLD CASINO.  I AM CONSIDERING MOVING WITH MY RUSSIAN GIRLFRIEND TO PP AND WORKING AT THE CASINO.  CAN ANYONE HELP?  IS IT POSSIBLE TO FIND AT LEAST 2BDR 2 BATH UPSCALE PLACE IN THAT IMMEDIATE AREA FOR $500 US A MONTH?

welcome to the forum! not sure on pricing but apartments are available,  as to work at casino,  again not sure!

Hi Planner,

Thx for response.  If it is possible, see what you or ur pals can find out re apartments near Ocean World.  At your convenience, of course.  There is absolutely no hurry.  We were just there…my bad.  Did not look! Work not an issue…I have that covered at the casino.  Most important is apartment that will make my GF happy.

Thx again
raymond

I have been living here in Sosua/Cabarete for 6 years and still try to find descent 1bdm apartment for less of 450 US.( Full furnished). Exist but far away from everything.
Friends don't ask impossible, Dominican Republic is not that much cheap.

I am looking for unfurnished.  Any info re 2 or 3br 2/3 bath units available long term in Puerto Plata near Ocean World Caisno; or in Punta Cana near Hard Rock resort will be greatly apprecaited!

thx r

Welcome to the forum.  You might look at long term rentals at lifestyles resort and villas right next door to ocean world

Bob K

Bob - I don't think Lifestyle does any long term rentals anymore, they need every unit for their timeshare people.

Raymond - let me see if I can get you some info.  What a difference though - Ocean World to Hard Rock Hotel!

Out of curiousity - why those areas???

Hi Planner,

I am a retired professional poker player.  I still play fairly regularly when my GF and I are not traveling or sleeping on the beach☺☺.  I have played many times at both Hard Rock and OW, the two best places to play in the country.  I also play in Sosua occasionally.  I am looking for convenience to these casinos, and I may eventually host a tournament @ OW if we land near you instead of PC. (Actually, we like this idea better; and your photos and kindness in helping tell me you and my GF would become fast friends.)

Whatever you find out will be very helpful.

Thx

Looking for a Short term option for a month or two while my family relocates to Puerto Plata. We will be arriving at the start of December 2013 to stay for at least a year at which point we will decide if the DR is for us or not. Any recommendations on an Apart Hotel or resonably priced monthly rental (less than $800/month preferably closer to $500) We plan on hitting the streets to find something long term once we get there. OK with tight quarters to begin with but ultimately want something at least 2br.

Thank you

Hello MJP35.

You should try to post an advert in the Properties for rent in Dominican Republic section. It might help.

Thanks

Karen :)

Hi karen, I am confused. Why would he post in Properties FOR Rent when he is looking to rent? That just doesn't make sense.

Planner confusing yourself with facts will make you crazy...

Bob K

Thanks BOB I needed that laugh!!!!

I rented a 2 bedroom apartment for I think $380/month includes elec and cable tv, nice family owner. if you are going from big lee's toward la sierna, I think the first road to the left is where you turn. go in one block and turn right, it's the last house on the block on the left at the next intersection. there is no sign, description is, driveway is gated, probably will see a suv in the drive and maybe a taxi on the street. about the street to turn leaving big lee's, I think it is the first left, if not, there's a restaurant on the corner and a large bill-board sign with the restaurant directly behind. the bill-board is pretty high. hope that helps. if all else fails. talk to big lee, when I rented for a month, I only stayed 2 weeks and let big lee use it for the last 2 weeks

hi There!
Tell me first, Where you want to rent in   P Plata ...???

Got a good idea where to get an apartment or room Haydaro? Cause I am interested. Any place in Sosua that is safe. Willing to rent up to $400 a month. I saw a website renting out aparments and such, but I really don't know if I can trust them. They have good rates, but if it's to good to be true, most likely a scam.

Here is a site for rentals in Sosua,  owned by Martin Espinal,  I can personally say he and his company are amazing.

WELL! Recently, after having spent a few months P.Plata ... I think I can help people who have a small budget to spend the winter in this crowded (Moto Conchos) city. Regarding the winter vacation. I lived in P.Plata center,(not far from the supermarket (Jose Louis), about 1 km from the beach)). To find an  accommodation (1 or 2) furnished rooms, equiped,  all inclusive, with even an air conditioner, at good price (max 12000 DOP), it is possible ...Yesss! you must search and search .. on site around the store ((Jose Louis), there is even a Adverts board rental in the entrance of the store,  should be consulted. In other hand, avoid locations adjacent to the downtown Hospital. it's too noisy .. Always visit first negociate and wait, they will phone you back..ja ja ja. Now Sosua is more expensive and full of JOY girls..A free  Sosua and Caberete, log news paper in (English and German) is available in the store ask the front counter..It containss contains a lot of furnished suite, owned byt Expat, minimum 17000 DOP. In my point of view,  almost All classifieds run by locals lawyers in DR  are more or less very expensive see scam.
To end, Unfortunately!all foreigners are seen by all locals as a milky cow..Good luck .

Dark_sol  What web site for Sosua did you see?

There are lots of apts available in Sosua in your price range that may work for you.

Bob K

Usually and correponding to my own experience the websites ads are more expensive...and not enough trusty. Sosua ... I did often consult their free English newspaper full of Adverts, a good  way to start. Finally .. the old method is still the best .. looking there ... Street by Street...

it's a site called sosuarentalservice. I messaged them and they responded. But I asked about a room for $170. They said to message them again this Monday. So I did but they never responded again and I even asked some questions about some rooms around the $400 mark.

hello,
my name is kathy, my husband an i are planning on retiring to the dr. we are in our early 60's and want to continue working when we arrive. we are going to rent for at least 6 months, get anchored and see where we will nestle in. how difficult is it to find employment there, can you,.? please advise. i would be grateful.
also would you consider sousa more suitable for new 40's, he he.
any words of wisdom would be helpful. thanks and GOD bless, kathy

Welcome to the forums. So the north coast may be perfect for you or maybe not, depends on so many things.  Glad you will rent for 6 months but also discover this country, the areas are so different you need to see if for yourself.

As to work,  feel free to send me your resumes and i can give you some feedback.  I do a lot of placement and recruiting work.  [email protected]

kssnobird  welcome.  My wife and I retired here to the north coast (Sosua/Cabarete area) over 7 years ago as young 40 year olds :).  Actually I was 56 and Pat 50.  We have not looked back for  a second.
Work is hard to get here, at least anything that pays any kind of wage.  We however did fail at retirement and worked selling realestate for 6 years or so and re retired last year but sill work some with private clients.
Please feel free to ask away here or by PM. and again welcome

Bob K

Hey, I'm very familar with Puerto Plata and Punta Cana. I'm wondering if you can help me find a furnished apartment home with one bedroom and bathroom reasonable price for a family of just 2. Maybe near the Malecon, I don't mind wherever just safe place and reasonable price.  :) Thanks.

You best bet to find an apartment is to come down and explore the area for yourself.  Walking the streets is many times the best way to find an apartment

Bob K

I will also have one of our members contact you with help.

Thank you guys, can you please contact me as soon as possible? I am hoping to move between July and December and I would like to have information and everything before I head down there.

Is this a full time move for you?

Bob K

It'll be about maybe 5 years there before I'd decide to leave again but as of now, I'm planning a full move.

Good luck to  you. Why Puerto Plata City?

Bob K

Thank you! Puerto Plata because one, I am very familiar and I feel very secure there. Another reason is I LOVE the location, my family, the hospitality and the warmth of the people, the generosity and overall positivity I have experienced there over the years. It is simply the type of place where I would love to experience living and possibly raising a family over there. Also, being in DR gives me a wide opportunity to volunteer in humanitarian work and especially help children who have very limited access to education and families in need of employment.

It's been awhile, and I haven't been contacted..

Ok,  try contacting  this person [email protected]  for anything to do with rental or purchase in puerto plata area. She is also a member here - and likely can help you.

As Bob mentioned earlier the best bet is to come down, stay in a hotel for a few days and start looking.  Rentals will range from as low as  US 200 and UP!!!!!   But don't bet on getting the one that is US 200 as you may not like where those are!!!!  You need to come down and hit the ground to find what you will need.

Hi so there is other apartments for rent in your building ? Thanks Tara
