It has always been a dream of mine to run off to an island & just start fresh. Once school is done for me I plan on moving to a tropical destination for maybe a year, to ground myself & to gain a better perspective on life. Would Jamaica be the place to do it?

it really depends on what it is you are looking for. Jamaica is fun & great, but the best thing is to go with others or get acquainted with trusted persons and plan where you'd want to go. No two towns are the same, Negril is nice,relaxing, best 8 mile stretch of beach on the island & you'll find a lot of foreigners there that have been living there for some time who can fill you in.Ocho Rios is catered to short-visit tourists from cruise ships or hotels but there's a lot more to do there.

I agree with serenaff and would add a few more questions to ask yourself before you run off to Jamaica:
1. how are you planning to live?
2. Do you have any friends there?
3. Are you comfortable being alone?
4. Have you ever visited the country?

Yes, it is a very beautiful and wonderful place but like most other places it can be dangerous if your are not prepared or take foolish risks.
