I may be in a minority of one but what is going on in the threads?

One instance where there is a bit of banter and up pops a post saying 'off topic' and now there is a thread that has been closed because of off topic banter.

Get a grip.

BTW when were locals allowed back on? Seems like the expat only approach did not last long.

Just when things seem to have taken a turn for the better!!!!!

I have to agree with MM. Some of the threads just get warmed up with great jokes flying around. If the thread initiator has a problem, then alright, we stick to the topic. but when that person just disappears, then the playground is for us to play! :D

hmmm.. Well being a moderator is not easy I guess..

Down Winston, Down!

Line from the Longest Day from beach master to his trusty best friend.  Good old fashioned Allies kick $%&# movie with John Wayne.

I know that my tolerance limits are at an all time low. It is bad enough during the week to hold my tongue in case I offend somebodies sensibilities, which is better known as telling people to get off their lazy backsides and do some work! But to come on here and face the same thing.

PC gone mad. Long live the revolution. Viva Zapata

Not sure about the last one but was gett

@MM it was intended to bolster your spirits.  You are on the right track and I support/agree with your thoughts.

Would be interesting to see how many actually requested the original changes or its just that very few have influenced these changes and others just endorsed.

Wtever rules any site has, there will be always some unhappiness arround :)

I think I get the angle on this comment and it sounds in disagreement with MM's opinion.  I firmly stand with MM. If he is now part of the minority, that is a shame since expats like him have made this site fun.  As put forth recently, the tone and humor this site once had has diminished.  It is a shame.

Agree with MaserMan. Yet, I do believe the moderators are trying to help. Maybe it's just the confusion that happens when new rules are being implemented. I'm sure things will get better as long as good guys keep coming. :idontagree:

Well, My comments were never been in disagreement with MM's opinion, only thing I was telling was wtever efforts moderator team puts in by changing rules, introducing new rules, there will be unhappiness here and there and it takes time to accustomed to the new things.

I still feel absence of variety of people especially, locals are creating a void which needs to be filled in. While there could be situations where some threads went ugly, every body requires a participation here by leaving the moderation job to the moderator team; otherwise this blog will end up with only 10 to 15 people blogging actively with not much new topics as most of the topics already covered.

New people and fresh blood always injects new ideas and new interesting topics that can be discussed further.......

It's a very hard balance to meet.  We had a fantastic blog site that was sponteneous, informative, fun and responsive.  We then had a barrage of locals that hijacked the site and started to try and hold Expats into account for being of different cultures, beliefs and having differing expectations which made a lot (not a few) Expats feel they could no longer participate in this blog site without repercussions.  Julien and his team received a range of complaints and concerns about the direction of the site and decided to 'clean things up a bit'.  However, what is happening now is that the humour on the site is now lost, the balance has been lost and it is proving difficult to get back. A lot of the 'long termer' are no longer active and that momentum is no longer.  Times change, people move on; that is all inevitable.  However, this blog site needs some stimulation and some flexible boundaries.  Yes, we will sometimes go 'off topic' with the odd banter and humour, that should be OK and should not require policing as such.  If someone becomes offensive or abusive, then the moderators should step in and slap some wrists, give a simple warning and then let things come back into play.  If that doesn't happen, then the culprit should be taken offline.

We have to be able to be stimulating, sponteneous and reactive on this site, but in doing so respect each other, the terms & condition of the blog and build this up.

As with any change, these things can take a little time, but will need lots of effort and goodwill from all concerned.  Keep at it and let's all try not to be so sensitive (myself included).  :)
