Help!!!!

Hi, we're the Bowens family, Karen, Martin & four children (6, 4, 2 & 1) looking to move to Melbourne on a work-sponsored secondment.

We have never been to Australia before so we have lots of questions & would be grateful for any helpful advice.
We're looking at Brighton, Hampton, Sandringham areas.

Want to be in a ‘good' area, close to the beach but easy to commute to CBD.  Any info on these areas or suggestions would be welcome!

Public schools – obviously want a really, really good school, but there doesn't seem to be any league tables as there are in the UK – any recommendations?

Any advice on finding rental properties & what is needed to obtain a lease?

Networks  - going to be a stay at home mum & want to a make lots of friends & create a good network......how?

Furniture, cars etc – do we bring them with us or buy in Oz?  How much approx are shipping costs vs buying in Oz?

Think I'm having a heart attack just writing this, how will we survive?

Welcome on board TheBowensFamily ;)

While waiting for other members to bring their input to your discussion, I will suggest you to browse through the divers sections of the Australia Guide, it might help you in answering some of your questions.

Secondly, concerning the shipping costs of your goods/household items, I will suggest you to ask a free quote from our recommended partner. Click here for requesting your quotation.

Warm Regards :)

Good Morning,

Dont have a heart attack! I know it all feels like its a bit too much to take in and so much to think of and find out and DO!

I work for a relocation company, I can recommend someone down in Melbourne who specialises in doing exactly what you need. Her office is in Sandringham. Sometimes its best to let someone do all this for you to have that support. I can be contacted on [email protected]

I can give you some approx costs of relocation/shipping costs if you send me some more details regarding how much your looking at bringing with you, size of your house, what type of cars you are looking at bringing (as Australia has a strict import policy) the more info you can provide the more i can help you with it.

I hope this puts you at ease a little more and the chest pains stop soon :)

Regards,

Michael

my name is Klara. I am 30 yo and have been living in Melbourne for 7 years.(my husband is australian).

We live in St Kilda.

The areas you are looking to live are all great with easy access to CBD.Also close to the beach.

The best web to look for rental is   realestate.com.au/rent
that should have all the important info you will need.

I cant be really helful with the schools as we dont have kids yet but most of public schools in that area supposed to be good.

Most of mums will be I am sure happy to help you out( school),there are lot of playgroups playgroup.org.au/
( I used to work as a nanny :) )

When are you arriving in Melbourne?

Regarding the shipping I think its easier to get new cars here.Furniture etc is in my opinion best to bring over.Pls be aware it does take up to 3 months to get here!!
