Does anyone have any advice about how I get a visa to go to Beijing as a tourist. I have a British passport, with multiple entry into Vietnam so that part is easy. What I am trying to find out is whether I need to get a Chinese tourist visa before I fly into Beijing - and if so , how? I am currently living in Da Nang.
Is it simplest just to do everything through a travel agent?
Any advice appreciated.

Yes, you need probably a tourist visa. Your travel agent will be able to arrange it for you, for the required fee.
