Hello, guys!
My name is Joana and I have been living in Quito for the last 6 months.
I always read the posts in the forum and some have been really helpfull.
I wanted to ask your opinion: do you feel that less expats are comming to Ecuador since the earthquake?
Do you think this low would be back up again?
It kind of worries me.
Have a nice day,
J

Hi,

I for one have no worries about this, in the southern portion we were unaffected.  Anyhow, less expats might be good.

Common sense tells you there will be fewer arrivals for the Ecuadorian coast for years.

That trend may reverse some day, but my opinion is that most future Expats going there will be wise enough to rent and not buy when that day comes.

One story that has not fully played out is the reported structural damage to tall condo buildings in Bahía and other coastal cities.  These buildings did not fall on April 16th.  However, their viability going forward is problematic.
