Hi! Also new to Hamburg and don't know a lot of people. Let me know if you'd like to grab a drink or something sometime!

English should be fine in the bigger cities like Hamburg. I have never been in a situation where English was completely useless. Learn a few words and be polite about asking things in English and you should get a good response.
Most Germans that I know do speak English and are happy to practice, but will be "shy" about it if you come off either arrogant or overly fast. They don't want to jump right into the deep end of loud fast slang-filled English.

Hello I´m new in Hamburg and to be honest I was surprise because I found a lot of people speaking English. I don´t have friends yet but when you need some directions is easy find somebody who talk to you in that language.  Good Luck.
