2 laptops and a dongle

Wimax USB dongle works fine on computer A (and other computers), but can't be properly identified by computer B which has Windows 7. Every time the dongle is plugged into any USB port on computer B one of the following happens:

1- Nothing

2- Computer B recognizes it in 'My Computer' as 'CD Drive (F:)HUAWEI ECHOLIFE' But when I double click it, it freezes and the mouse cursor shows that "it's thinking" but nothing happens, at this point I can still minimize or close down the My Computer window, and I can access other functions, it's just that Drive F becomes inaccessible and whenever I bring the cursor to My Computer it starts spinning/thinking. AND as soon as I unplug the dongle, things go back to normal.

I went to the local LTT office. They were useless.

FYI: Computer B was used less than a week b4 I receive it. But whoever used it went crazy with it. I ended up reinstalling windows 7 (recovery and all)... Now: USB connections work fine on computer B. External hard drives, flash drives, printers...etc all connect just fine via USB. Only the WiMax Dongle.

First I have never used the dongle.

Did you install the software before plugging in the dongle?

I believe there is a separate version for win 7. When you set it up using the wizard it asks you to plug in the dongle at a later stage.

9 out of 10 ltt CSOs will ruin your computer so your better of not contacting them or if your adventurous enough to risk your data as they are most likely to "formaata harrdeesk" to solve any problem.

Sounds like a driver issue..
Three suggestions:
1- Make sure you are logged on with an admin account
2- if you haven't already done so, download the latest driver for your modem and reinstall it.
3- temporarily disable Antivirus and firewall programms to eliminate any settings that are preventing the dongle to work.

I am assuming you are using the Huawei Echolife 325 USB Dongle, (for other modems choose from the drop down menues) therefore the latest Firmware version is : V300R001LBYC10B050 (check what version you are currently using)

OK, here is the deal:

For the last few weeks I wanted to get back to a 5:30 mile run on pavement, in Vibrams. But the air in this place is so dirty that I developed a sever allergy in the process from inhaling so much street dust and 30-year old car fumes. So now my nose burns every time I inhale air like I'm sniffing acid, I can't sleep because I can't breath peacefully, and evidently I can't even think. And that's my justification for going to the website and not even seeing the word "firmware", I just saw "driver" and the only result I got for that was for a mac OS.

It sucks when you're so desperate to sneeze but you can't. I'm just gonna blame it all on Mudman.

OMG, @ExpatLibyan, you sure could do with some IT lessons firmware is totally different than a driver. You won't find the driver of the USB Wimax dongle on LTT's website because when you plug the dongle in the laptop the dongle uses a feature (built in) aka KERBEROS detection policy that would automatically install the driver for you, the end user needs to follow instructions as in normal installation (Next, Next, Finish...)

Upgraded the dongle's firmware via computer A. Disconnected dongle and connected it to computer B...same problem.

P.S. I should note that when computer B identifies and installs the dongles, it says: USB Mass Storage Device Installed Successfully, not: WiMax Echolife...etc.

You Wimax dongle is F**KED, before taking it to LTT do try and get a brand new USB cable and try again if it works you'll be yip yappin, and if it doesn't then go and curse LTT.

Twango

I could sell you a wireless wimax box c/w 4 months left on it £100

u don't need to upgrade the firmware it's only will virtually increase the signal green bar in the selaty app ,no need .
and u don't install the driver
try this ,go to comp A and copy the new cd(hawai...) to
a flash and take it to the comp B and install it and plug in the wimax .
if not try to log in as admin and make comptability to Win XP

I hope it's work :/

Thanks everybody.

At this point I'm just going to shut down the bum, put it aside and take a break for a couple of weeks then try it again.

But if you know of a solution, please share.

Since the dongle works fine on the other computer, the problem you have is related to the driver in the win 7 machine.

remove all of the drivers related to the dongle.

remove the dongle. reboot (not really needed).
Run the installation files by right clicking and setting compatibility to windowsXP mode, and running the installation files with administrator rights.

should take care of the problem. they do work on win7 systems.
