If one doesn't have to face the peak hour traffic and the hooting every day, then Colombo by far, for its Art, Social life, Food, Design, and chances of Serendipity.......oh, and meandering through Odel!!

Hi Julien,
It defends on what you plan to here. If you plan to work here then a city closer to your working place will ideal. I moved to Sri Lanka last year and stayed in Colombo for 2 weeks. Heat was unbearable so is traffic jams. Then moved to Kandy where I am still staying. It got everything as in Colombo sans boring night life. Galle is too hot. A single person can manage it with 500 US / € per month. Or even less.

After trying Colombo and it's immediate suburbs for years (Dehiwela, Wellawatte), we found NEGOMBO beach, and it's simply PARADISE for us!
And only 15 minutes to the airport, and 30 mins to Colombo whenever we require!
Ahhhhh, paradise..............

The best city is Padukka because it has a very natural background and 100% natural water and also is located in Colombo District. There are around 10 hotels near this City.
