The penality for killing 2 people in a car accident whilst driving with around 140 km's  is just about the same as loitering in the streets of Gzira looking for customers!

Reading the comments is very interesting but does not change the fact that as a car driver in Malta you can kill people and get away with a suspended sentence and a few peanuts fine. In many other countries that would be consider as manslaughter or even murder !

What a disgrace ! So be carefull folks !

This is horrible! It seems the same can be said for drug trafficking:

A 'troubled' 19 yo guy, 87 ecstasy pills and three sachets of cocaine gets suspended sentence:

A British man gets jailed for 10 1/2 years + €23,000 fine for growing five cannabis plants:

OK , I'll be more direct , also because these posts are captured by Google and other search engines,

A Maltese youngster driving at 140 km@s  and killing two foreigners ist let off after waiting 6 years for people to forget .

Let us take this viral ! Although in Malta is does not  matter anyway!  A maltese youngster can kill foreigners on the road without serious punishment. Let it be the other way around !

So much for justice in Malta !

The latest comments by Maltese on the various online news sites suggest that the Maltese law courts accept the killing of UK tourists by reckless driving . The price is a few thousand Euros and a driving ban for a few months !

Well done Maltese judges!

There was a case even worse than that a few years ago. A guy killed his girlfriend after driving home from St Juliens pissed out of his head at 4am.

As a result of the criminal case, the victim's family were forced to open a civil case against him in order to get some sort of justice.

Causing death by careless driving when under the influence of drink or drugs is THE MOST SERIOUS driving offence in the UK. You can get up to a maximum of 14 years imprisonment and there is a minimum custodial sentence of one year imprisonment.

In Malta "a heavy fine" of €6,600 is deemed an appropriate punishment. The law is most certainly an ass in this country. It's no wonder they all drive like bloody idiots, they know they can quite literally get away with murder.

was he on bail or has he already served time on remand .. it doesnt say in the article ..

he will have to live with those peoples death on a daily basis

i agree the punishments should be harsher but the courts need to be dealing with these cases sooner because 6 years of waiting is not only harmful to the victims families but also to the accused

I wonder if the colour of his skin had anything to do with it??

Discrimination? In Malta? Surely not.
