I need your advise - is it worth to work for 4000myr?

Hi!! Please help me to decide. I work as payroll specialist and i got an offer to work in malaysia for 4000myr (i guess it is gross). Is it worth it to work with that salary?

Can i save atleast 1000myr every month?? Im single and can live in simple life. :)

i really appreciate for your advise. Thank you in advance. :)

Hello rona123

welcome to Expat.com

What facilities are you being offered? Accommodation? How many years experience do you have?

Check out threads talking about salary here : Cost of living in Malaysia

4000 MYR is very low salary

Regards
Kenjee

Hi kenjee,
Actually, the offer it is not yet finalize, anyway i have 2yrs experience in payroll. Do you have any idea how much should be the salary for a payroll specialist??? Thank you for your reply. :)

Not really. Asians I know here suffer on higher salaries. Similar experience from asean countries I know get 6 to 7k but many just get legal min of 5k (but there has been a change to 2.5k)

You can prob survive BUT not save. You must be kidding to think you can save.

As you are female be careful. Years ago when I used to party more lots of Pinoys said they came here for payroll jobs. The job actually involved hanging around bars and spreading legs to get passport back eventually.

Malaysia is no 1 for trafficking of women per NGO research.

It would be possible (I am an expat and live comfortably on 5500.) It depends on your lifestyle and where you are planning on living. good luck  :)

Omg!! I need to be more careful because of that. Thank you! :)

I have a simple lifestyle anyway, what is your job if you dont mind. :)

With that salary, yes you can, based on what you have described.
As I have said previously, spend within your means, eat simple and have a simple lifestyle, you can survive in Malaysia.
Know what to spend on and how much to spend on and you can save RM1,000 monthly.
Try to act rich and spend like a Duke, even RM20,000 is not enough.
Trust me Rm20,000 a month is no big deal if you want to act and be seen spending and rubbing shoulder with the HNWIs in Singapore or in Malaysia.

The thread is so old, I thought it was a new question. Anyway, to newcomers looking at this thread, RM4000 is not enough and no, you cannot save any money out of that salary.

That said, many local people are working on much lower salaries and they are struggling badly. At RM4000, before taxes, a person would have to live in a village, share accommodation, share transport, share everything. This means you AND a wife will both have to work. Right now, today, i wouldnt even consider a job at RM7000 if I was married, kids, etc. It cant be done anymore, not since at least three years ago.

We need new topics, people are digging out old threads just to have something to post about.

Hi Rona,

simple calculation:

1. Room : Rm 500
2. Food Normal : RM 600-1000
3. Transportation : RM 1000-1500
4. Hangouts: Cinema and weekends : as per your requirement : RM 500-1000
5. Extras.

( Government taxes from your salary)

So, you can decide what you have to do.
