Working as a freelancer in Dominican Republic

Hi,

A lot of expats dream of becoming self-employed: we would like to help you to make that dream come true.

Can foreigners work as self-employed in Dominican Republic? What are the formalities to work as a freelancer?

What are the pros and cons of this status: social security, tax system, etc.?

How is the freelance market in Dominican Republic?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience,

Kenjee

We have covered this multiple times here.

Working in the DR is hard at best.  You need your residency and cedula to work legally.  Pay here is very low and very few who have to support themselves here succeed (some do).   Those in the IT industry seem to do ok but most work remotely for companies back "home"

Freelance is the same as any other job,  you need to be legal and you need to pay your taxes.

MOST freelancers do not work for Dominican clients they work for  other foreign clients.
